Correctional Officer Mack S. House III serves as a Founding Director of the National Honor Guard Society, holding the Corrections seat, and serves as the Society’s Secretary and Records Custodian. He brings more than a decade of Honor Guard service, command leadership, and correctional ceremonial experience to the Society.

Mack has served for ten years with the Rhode Island Brotherhood of Correctional Officers Honor Guard, known as the RIBCO Honor Guard, including the past three years as Commander. In that role, he leads a fourteen-member unit responsible for representing correctional officers, honoring service, and preserving the dignity of ceremonial traditions within the corrections profession.

As Commander, Mack has focused on developing leadership throughout the unit rather than concentrating responsibility at the top. He cross-trains team members across ceremonial roles so they can step into greater responsibility when needed, strengthening the unit’s depth, readiness, continuity, and long-term leadership pipeline. He also designed RIBCO’s annual recruitment and onboarding process, creating a repeatable structure for identifying, preparing, and sustaining Honor Guard members.

Mack commands the unit’s annual regional wreath-laying ceremony, renders honors at retired Rhode Island Department of Corrections and RIBCO funerals, and represents the unit at national line-of-duty-death ceremonies. He also hosts annual joint Honor Guard training and commands the joint Honor Guard detail for the Rhode Island Special Olympics Summer Games.

In 2021, Mack was named RIBCO Correctional Officer of the Year, reflecting his professionalism, service, and leadership within the correctional community.

As part of the National Honor Guard Society, Mack brings the perspective of a working correctional officer, Honor Guard commander, and organizational leader. His service supports the Society’s commitment to ensuring corrections Honor Guards are represented, respected, and included in the development of national standards, best practices, and professional collaboration.
