Dan Grizard serves as the EMS Board Representative for the National Honor Guard Society. He has been a full-time paramedic with the St. Charles County Ambulance District in St. Peters, Missouri, since 1998 and has dedicated much of his career to advancing the role of EMS Honor Guards.

 

Dan was a founding member of the St. Charles County Ambulance District Honor Guard, established in 2007 as the first organized EMS-only Honor Guard in Missouri. He was later appointed Assistant Commander and became Commander in 2015. His initial Honor Guard training was conducted in-house by members with prior military experience, and he later attended the Elmhurst Honor Guard Academy. Today, his agency continues to invest in professional development through annual Honor Guard instruction with Competitive Outcomes.

Under Dan’s leadership, the team has grown to 18 members, with a command structure that includes a Commander, Assistant Commander, and shift representatives. The team has conducted active-duty funerals, line-of-duty-death funerals, retired member funerals, and has assisted neighboring EMS agencies with funeral honors. They also regularly provide ceremonial colors presentations throughout the year and maintain a structured training program that includes professional instruction, meetings, and practice days.

Dan’s commitment to Honor Guard service is rooted in his respect for EMS professionals and the sacrifices they make. He believes those who dedicate their lives to serving others deserve to be honored with dignity, formality, and gratitude when their service comes to an end.

 

As part of the National Honor Guard Society, Dan is committed to strengthening communication among civilian Honor Guards, expanding EMS Honor Guard representation, supporting awareness of the National EMS Memorial Service, and helping develop standards that preserve the integrity and meaning of ceremonial service. He believes the Honor Guard community is stronger when it works together across agencies, disciplines, and regions.
